- Title: Dude, Where's My Car?:
Status: Open
URL: http://projects.twice.cc/?l=collaboration&id=314
Connections: H.323
Grades: 4
Subjects: Language Arts/English, Social Studies/History
Dates: Most likely before Christmas. I don't have a specific date in mind.
Description: This is a mystery quest project where each class will use Google Earth and a search engine to place a car placemark in a desired location (something relatively familiar). The classes then need to research several defining clues about their location (can be specific or just a state...depending on how difficult we want to make it).
On connection day we will introduce ourselves, share our information, silence the camera while the kids research the clues given, then unmute to ask a clarifying question, give a few minutes to re‑research if needed, then reveal where we think their car is.
This can be done in one class period, but for a first time trial and connection (I haven't done it either), we may want to make it 2‑3 to ensure that the project is successful and they don't feel rushed. Then, when they know how to do it, we can decrease the time if you want to do it again with a different location.
We can also take this a step further! Once the students locate the location (specific place or state only), the students can then give directions using a road map to other locations as a tour of that place (like a virtual field trip). This works on map skills, geography, research, technology usage, and verbal as well as written directions.
- Title: Will you be mime?:
Status: Open
URL: http://projects.twice.cc/?l=collaboration&id=315
Connections: H.323
Grades: 4
Subjects: Social Studies/History
Dates: I'm pretty open right now. I don't know my schedule. Most likely before Christmas.
Description: This project is an exchange project/mystery quest. I am wanting to connect with a partner in Texas to cover SS TEK 7B. We need to describe a variety of regions in Texas and the Western Hemisphere such as landform, climate, and vegetation regions that result from physical characteristics.
Once we have both covered a little of this information in class, we should be able to connect and play cherades by acting out or signing different landforms, climates, and vegetation to describe where we are at.
To simplify this, we can have pre‑made cards that show a location, a weather report, and include types of vegetation seen in that area of Texas. The students would need to come up with their own signs, signals, actions, without spelling out the word or mouthing the answer to show to the other class while they guess where we are describing. The students can work one on one guessing or as a team(with one spokes person due to microhone limitations). **The opposing team can have a deck of the same "acting" cards to choose from based on the acted out clues given.** Once the other team has had a few minutes to consider their verdict, they can give an answer and receive points based on if they are right or wrong.
This should give them an easy way to practice verbalizing and acting out the landforms and climate of Texas without regurgitating information.
